Betelgeuse

Betelgeuse is a red Supergiant mysterious Star which can be seen by our naked eyes in the night sky. Betelgeuse is Second Brightest Star (First one is Rigel) in the Orion Constellation and Tenth Brightest star in the Night Sky. If we see at near-infrared Wavelengths then Betelgeuse is the Brightest star in the Night Sky. Suppose Betelgeuse is in the Center of Our Solar System. Can you predict what will happen? No ! Well, In this situation the Surface of Betelgeuse will be beyond the asteroid belt and It will orbit the mercury, Earth, Venus, Mars, and even Jupiter.

As per research and Calculation the mass of Betelgeuse is about 10-20 times that of Sun and its distance from the sun is calculated about 700 light-years. Because of the large mass the Betelgeuse is developing with a rapid speed and it is estimated that its life will end with a supernova explosion , which is most likely to occur within 100,000 to 200,000 years.

During the main sequence life of a star, gravity causes hydrogen to fuse to form helium in the star's core. However, when the hydrogen runs out and the helium accumulates, the game changes. Large stars like Betelgeuse will swell to a massive size, hence their supergiant status.

Size of the Betelgeuse:

Size: 617.1 million km

Betelgeuse is one of the largest known star and For Comparison It is approximately 950 times as large as Sun, If we take more Comparison then Just think that the diameter of orbit of Mars around the Sun is 328 times the Diameter of the Sun.

According to Infrared Studies from spacecraft have revealed that Betelgeuse is surrounded by immense shells. And also it is estimated that the largest of these shells has a radius of 7.5 light-years.

How old is Betelgeuse ?

Age : 10.01 million years.

As we know During the Life span of a star , Because of Gravity hydrogen Fuses to form helium in the Core of the stars. And when the hydrogen runs out of stock and helium freezes , then we see a change in the Star's life. A large and massive star like Betelgeuse will take shape to a massive size and then they become a Supergiant star.

The Stars which are in large shape burn their hydrogen in to helium very fast , that's why they have a short life span. Let's take a example to understand this , As we know the Betelgeuse star is at the end of its life and it is only 10 million years old, Whereas Our Sun is five billion years old and it is in its young age.So we can Conclude that the large stars has a short lifespan as compared to a average size stars.

Constellation of the Betelgeuse :

The Betelgeuse star is in the Orion Constellation. The constellation Orion is one of the most beautiful patterns in the night sky, seen by nacked eyes. Because of the giant Betelgeuse star orion sometimes looks brighter and sometimes dim. This is because the giant red star Betelgeuse is present in the right Shoulder of the hunter. Hunter is the pattern made by Orion Constellation.
